The Lorelei
08-Aug-1975
The summit of this rock is 127m above the Rhine and descends almost perpendicularly to the water. At its base it has a seven-fold echo. This may account for the place it holds in legend and poetry. The Niegelungen Treasure is said to be hidden here and a siren is suppoed to sing to lure ships onto the rock. In fact, the river is very deep and runs fast. Any ship not under power naturally ends up there.
