This was really an attempt to take a photo of the steam locomotive seen in the picture just moving behind the trucks of the train in front. Polish Railways ( PKP) In 1975, PKP still made wide use of steam traction in parts of the country, in this case the line North West from Lodz towards Torun. This is an attraction for steam enthusiasts from all over the world and the Polish tourist agency 'ORBIS' organised tours called "The magic of Polish steam". The majority of the country was by now electrified and the days of steam were numbered even in a country like Poland whose economy is still governed by coal. Apart from the common electric locomotives, there are some heavy diesel hydraulics of East German extraction in use on passenger trains on non electrified lines.
