Warsaw - Nowe Miasto
Kosciol Sakramentek
18-May-1975
Warsaw "New Town" arose from the turn of the 14th/15th century and was joined up to the old town in 1792. This was basically a settlement of artisan-agricultural character with timber houses and no defence walls. The brick houses were built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and it is this style that the district has been rebuilt following the second world war. This photograph shows the church of the nuns of the Holy Sacrament, whose baroque structure dates from 1688. It was founded by Queen Maria Sobiesca as an offering for King Jan III Sobiesci's victory over the Turks at Vienna in 1683. It was destroyed in 1944 and has since been rebuilt.
