Our hotel in Hiroshima, the Hiroshima Prince, is located at the end of a wooded, rocky headland South of the centre of Hiroshima, near the port of Hiroshima at Ujina. The hotel itself is vast. This next series of photographs were taken during a short walk almost as soon as we arrived. The weather was VERY hot.

The tram network was one symbol of survival for the people of Hiroshima after the atomic bomb explosion. Despite almost total devastation of the centre of Hiroshima, the trams were running again within a few days.

The Peace Park
16-Aug-1997
The Peace Park is established as a symbol of rememberance for those killed in the WWII atomic bomb and as a symbol of the people of Yokohama's commitment to future peace. This photograph taken from within the museum, shows the main cenotaph and in the background, the A Dome, the ruined remains of the centre of government maintained as a symbol.
