Hiroshima Sue on the sea-wall near the hotel 15-Aug-1997 Our hotel in Hiroshima, the Hiroshima Prince, is located at the end of a wooded, rocky headland South of the centre of Hiroshima, near the port of Hiroshima at Ujina. The hotel itself is vast. This next series of photographs were taken during a short walk almost as soon as we arrived. The weather was VERY hot.

Hiroshima A tram 16-Aug-1997 Hiroshima has a busy network of brightly coloured tram. This yellow tram was passing near the Peace Park en route for the Port of Yokohama at Ujina.

Hiroshima A bright yellow tram 16-Aug-1997 The tram network was one symbol of survival for the people of Hiroshima after the atomic bomb explosion. Despite almost total devastation of the centre of Hiroshima, the trams were running again within a few days.

Hiroshima The Peace Park 16-Aug-1997 The Peace Park is established as a symbol of rememberance for those killed in the WWII atomic bomb and as a symbol of the people of Yokohama's commitment to future peace.
This photograph taken from within the museum, shows the main cenotaph and in the background, the A Dome, the ruined remains of the centre of government maintained as a symbol.
