Remargen
The bridge at Remagen
26-Sep-1976
The bridge at Remagen was noted for being the last bridge destroyed during the war as the allies overran Germany in 1945 and not before the allies had crossed to the East bank. It was never rebuilt. This photo taken from the boat shows the remains of the bridge to the East, with a railway tunnel in the background. We spent the night at Remagen - a singularly dull place, supposedly because of a fault in the landing stage at our planned stop, Linz. We were able to get an early night, but soon discovered how thin the walls of the cabin were, expecially when someone next door snored.
