Weather

Poor visibility, clouds and fog drifting in and out, light snow at times.

Overall

Not such a good day. The weather changed and Cathy could not ski because of her twisted knee.

It started to snow as we were getting up and when we started to ski, it was cold, windy, lightly snowing and visibility was dreadful.

We started with a run down Piste 'H' from Tufs lift. The wind was almost directly against us on the top part. Although we couldn't see very much, the run was well groomed and easy to ski.

To keep warm, we headed for Lanches, a high speed bubble chair. The first two runs were straight down Double 'M'. Visibility was not good at the top and there the surface was unpredicatble. Further down, visibility was better and the piste was in good condition. For our third run we took the switchback cruise, Cairn. Because of the fresh snow and wind, we had to pole in several places, so decided not to do this one again.

After coffee, John decided he was too cold and gave up. This was a pity because conditions improved somewhat to about the best of the day. Chris and I did another two runs off Lanches. For the first we followed the same track as earlier, but cut off the main piste to the left about half way down. Off-piste conditions were OK, but visibility wasn't really good enough. For the second run, we went off-piste at the top and rejoined the marked piste at the top of the steep ramp from Grand Plan that leads down to Double 'M'.

After lunch again it was just Chris and I. Conditions looked slightly better so we headed up Tufs, intending to ski down to La Daille. Things didn't work to plan. Almost as soon as we started down Edelweiss we were in very thick fog, and only the poles along the edge of the trail and following the Mont Blanc lift down gave us any sense of direction. So we got on Tommeuse 2 and headed back to Val Claret where visibility was still OK.

One more run up Lanches, with poor visibility at the top and skied out lower slopes convinced us that we were not enjoying it, so we stopped for the day just after 2pm
