Lazienki Park - The Palace
18-May-1975
A view od the palace façade reflecting in the lake. LAZIENKI PARK This beautiful collection of gardens dates from the 18th century and owes its origin to King Stanislaus Poniatowski who bought the castle and grounds of Ujazdow in 1766. He built a small palace, laid out a park and built two theatres. On his death, the park was sold to the Tsar of Russia. Since 1918 it has been state property. During the war, the Nazis burnt the palace but removed the works of art. The building was reconstructed and the works of art partially rescued. The creators of the park were Schneider, Schultz and Schuch. The latter modelled Lazienki into an English landscape park, retaining however the regular straight pattern of lakes and promenades.
