Warsaw (Stare Miasto) Plac Zamkowy - The Royal Castle 18-May-1975 The Royal Castle was built in its current style between 1740 and 1747. It was completely destroyed in the war and is currently being rebuilt. This photo shows the clock tower.
Stare-Miasto (Old Town)
The "old town" of Warsaw dates from the 13th and 14th centuries. It formed the centre of the insurrection in 1944 and was 90% destroyed by the NAZIS in retaliation. It has been rebuilt in exactly the same style as it was pre-war: a fantastic achievement. Artificial maybe but how much of our historic buildings are original and how much has been replaced during "upkeep"?
