Mount of Olives

Finally we did make it to the top of the Mount of Olives. The major feature at the top is now the Mount of Olives Hotel and apart from that there is little room for traffic.

Camel rides were available but did not seem all that popular.

The main reason for visiting the Mount of Olives is the magnificent view down over Temple Mount and the Old City.

The face of the Mount of Olives is a Jewish Cemetery, apparently the most holy place for a Jew to be buried. There are magnificent views of the Dome of the Rock and the archeological park just outside the walls of the Old City.

Looking right from the overlook towards the Garden of Gethsemane it was possible to see the golden "onions" on the Russion Orthodox church

This rather sleepy dog was on guard duty just below the area where we stopped.
